Deepsic, a startup of artificial intelligence in China, has faced new restrictions from the government. According to The Information site, some key engineers of the company have been forced to submit their passports to prevent their travel abroad. This action was aimed at preventing disclosure of confidential information. Deepsic engineers are likely to reveal commercial or even national secrets.
China exerts severe controls on dipsic
Dipsic, which became known earlier this year with the release of the R1 artificial intelligence model, is now under more supervision. Chinese officials believe the company could become a major success in the technology industry, and thus have more control over its activities. In addition to restricting employee travel, the Chinese government also interferes with the company’s investor recruitment to prevent the entry of adverse foreign agents.
These restrictions are implemented through the parent company “High-Flyer”, which is an investment fund. The company keeps some employees’ passports to limit the possibility of leaving the country.
New Dipsic restrictions are imposed as reports have recently been reported that the Chinese government has advised researchers and artificial intelligence to refrain from traveling to the United States. There is a concern that such trips will lead to the disclosure of commercial secrets and advanced technologies.
China seems to be trying to exercise more control over its innovative companies to prevent the exit of talents and sensitive information. Given the global competition in the field of artificial intelligence, rigorous measures such as recording of employee passports could indicate an increase in tensions and security concerns over foreign influence.
