According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s artificial intelligence system will be enabled by default for all users from iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 onwards, and there will be no need to manually activate this feature.
Previously, Apple’s artificial intelligence was available to users as an optional feature. When installing iOS 18.1 or 18.2, users were asked if they wanted to enable AI features, and the feature was only available to them after confirmation. This will change in iOS 18.3.
Apple’s artificial intelligence in iOS 18.3
For new users or those upgrading to iOS 18.3, Apple’s AI is automatically activated during the iPhone setup process. Users can access Apple’s AI capabilities after setting up their device. To disable Apple’s artificial intelligence, users must go to Apple Intelligence and Siri settings and disable Apple’s artificial intelligence option. By doing this, all features of this system will be disabled on the device.
Chances are, most users whose device supports AI functionality have already enabled Apple Intelligence, but for those who haven’t yet, Apple plans to enable these AI features automatically when they update.
It is not yet clear what will happen to users who previously enabled Apple’s AI and then disabled it in the settings. Fortunately, iOS 18.3 and related updates don’t re-enable these features, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens after the general release.
iOS 18.3 is a light update overall, but it includes several notable changes to features such as smart notification summaries, which have been one of the most controversial AI features so far.
Apparently, Apple feels that after implementing these changes and after a few months of AI being publicly available, it’s a good time to enable this AI feature by default.
