Matsushita died in 1989, and Panasonic explained in a statement that it created the AI to further promote its founder’s management philosophy and knowledge. The Japanese giant’s statement reads:

The Panasonic founder’s AI was trained with 3,000 audio recordings of him, manuscripts, speeches and interviews he gave. The company has partnered with the University of Tokyo’s Matsuo Institute to create an AI character that mimics its founder’s thinking and speaking style.
Panasonic says:
“The development of artificial intelligence technology offers a new approach to validating traditional research questions, and we hope that it can allow us to conduct interdisciplinary research that was previously impossible using innovative methods.”
Matsushita has a special place in Japan. He is often referred to as the “God of Management” in Japan for his leadership philosophy and his role in transforming a company that started out selling light bulbs into a multinational electronics company.
