It may be hard to believe that 99.99% of the content posted on Twitter is “healthy”, but Twitter made this claim in response to an article that said unhealthy and harmful content has increased on Twitter.
Bloomberg’s article entitled “Increasing harmful content on Twitter has become a major obstacle for advertisers to return to this platform” addressed Twitter’s problems after Musk took office. After buying Twitter for $44 billion, Musk fired many of its employees, some of whom included people who were responsible for moderating posts. On the other hand, users who were previously blocked for violating Twitter’s policies returned to Twitter at the behest of Mask. Bloomberg claimed that these changes led to an increase in hateful and violent content on Twitter.
In response to this article, the Twitter user account denied Bloomberg’s claim of an increase in unhealthy content on Twitter and said that 99.99% of posts published on Twitter are healthy.
This tweet was met with a lot of ridicule from users, and even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic representative of New York, criticized it and said that “I have never experienced harassment like this on Twitter, and users can now pay $8 a month to make their harassment more public.”
Recently, a report showed that Twitter’s advertising revenue in the United States from April 1 to May 1, 2023 was about $88 million, which is a 59% decrease compared to last year. Musk has said that half of the company’s ads have been lost due to heavy pressure from advertisers in Europe and North America.
