Nike has unveiled a new innovation called the Amplify project. It’s a robotic system for running and walking that, according to Nike, helps athletes move with less effort; Similar to what electric bikes do for cyclists.
The system consists of a motor, a power transmission belt and a rechargeable battery embedded in a running shoe with a carbon fiber sole. Nike says the purpose of the design of the Amplify project is to enhance the natural movements of the calf and ankle muscles so that users can move with less energy and more efficiently.
According to Nike, the Amplify project is supposed to make the experience of walking, jogging, and even moderate jogging easier and more enjoyable. The company has compared its new system to an electric bicycle and emphasized that the technology is designed for athletes who run at an average speed of 6 to 7.5 minutes per kilometer, not for competitive professional runners.
Nike has developed this project in collaboration with Dephy, which is active in the field of robotics. However, this system is still in the testing phase, and Nike has announced that it plans to bring it to the consumer market in the next few years.
This year, Nike also unveiled another shoe called the Hyperboots, designed specifically for pre- and post-workout warm-ups and cool-downs. These shoes are equipped with internal heating technology and pressure massage with moving air and are available at a price of $900.
The Amplify project seems to be Nike’s next step in combining robotic technology with sports equipment; An effort to make shoes that are not only lighter and more durable, but also really empower you in motion.
