Matthew Perry spent his childhood in Canada with his mother before he became famous in America by playing the role of Chandler Bing in the series Friends. Over the years, he was not only a top junior tennis player, but also a classmate of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The actor revealed only once that he and a friend beat up Trudeau at school, a moment he admitted he wasn’t proud of.
Both Perry and Trudeau attended Rockcliffe Park Public School, a prestigious elementary school in Ottawa. Another interesting point is that Matthew’s mother, Susan Marie Morrison, works as Justin’s father’s press secretary during the prime ministership of Pierre Trudeau. Citing an incident from his childhood, Perry admitted that pure jealousy led him to beat Trudeau at the time. The Friends star said on Tonight with Jimmy Kimmel in 2017: “I was a few years ahead of Justin Trudeau. My friend Chris Murray, who was also in fifth grade, reminded me that we actually beat Justin. I don’t know why? We both beat him. I think he was great at a sport that we weren’t. So we were very jealous.”
Perry added: “I’m not proud of it because it’s so bad. I was a stupid kid, I didn’t want to beat him up but I think I played a big role in him getting to such a great position and becoming prime minister. I think he said, I’ll go on and become prime minister.” It is worth noting that Justin served as the 23rd Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 to 2025. Recently, he has been in the news because of the rumors about his romantic relationship with the American singer and songwriter, Katy Perry. The two sparked speculations about their relationship after posting a series of intimate photos on social media.
