According to the Hollywood Reporter, Instagram plans to launch its awards program. The program is something like an Oscar, but for the short content of social media.
How to donate prizes:
- The ring instead of the statue: Contrary to traditional awards ceremony, there is no news of a magnificent ceremony, comedian host or the like. Instead, 4 winners will receive a physical loop.
- Design and value: These rings are designed by the famous fashion designer, Grace Wells Bonner. Although the award has no financial payments, they may find material value due to spiritual value and design.
- Digital Awards: The winners also receive a digital version of the ring to put it on their Instagram profiles and stories.
- Profile Personalization Ability: The pride of the creators will have the opportunity to customize their profile background color with a unique grade. “This kind of personalization is something we have never done before,” says Iva Chen, director of fashion partnerships on Instagram. (It should be noted, however, that platforms like MySpace, 5 years ago, and Freundster before, provided users with this opportunity.)
The process of selection and criteria
Although Instagram has three billion monthly active users, only 4 people will receive this ring.
- Refereeing Board: The referees will first reduce the list of candidates to several thousand, then several hundred and eventually to the final winners. Members of the referee include Adam Mansari, Instagram President, and figures such as Spike Lee and actor Yara Shahidi.
- Criteria: There are no formal categories like other awards, but the winners will be selected from different subjects and groups. “The criteria were really strict, but in principle we were looking for those who take creative risks, are always innovating and thinking in new ways to communicate with their audiences,” Chen says.
Instagram hopes to become a regular and annual event. “We are looking forward to seeing how these awards are welcomed and the winners enjoy this real Instagram focus,” Chen said.
The winners of the awards will be announced on October 1.
