On Saturday evening, just a few hours before the ban took effect, the Tik Tok app went down and was removed from the App Store and Google Play. Users who had previously installed the app are now faced with a message that says, “Sorry, Tik Tok is currently unavailable.”

The announcement also states that a law has been passed in the United States to ban TikTok and users are temporarily unable to use the app. TikTok has announced that President Trump has expressed his willingness to work together to find a solution to restore TikTok once he takes office. Users can close the app or visit the TikTok website for more information. It is also possible to download user data through the website.
ByteDance’s popular video editing app, CapCut, is also no longer available in the US. TikTok had six months to split from Chinese parent company ByteDance after President Biden passed the Act to Protect Americans from Apps Controlled by Foreign Adversaries. The company sued the Supreme Court, claiming that its First Amendment rights were violated, but the court unanimously ruled against the app.
As part of the ban, app stores must remove TikTok or face a $5,000 fine for every US user who downloads the app.
