According to a report published by TRM Labs, hackers stole approximately $1.85 billion in cryptocurrency in 2023, which is a significant decrease compared to 2022 when it was around $4 billion.
In 2023, many platforms fell victim to cryptocurrency hackers, the biggest of which was the Mixin Network platform, which lost about $200 million.
This year, infrastructure attacks were recognized as the worst type of cryptocurrency hacking, accounting for around 60% of all stolen funds.
In 2023, hackers also targeted other cryptocurrency platforms such as Euler Finance, BonqDAO, Poloniex, and Atomic Wallet, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from each of them.
The TRM report has attributed the decrease in digital currency theft in 2023 compared to 2022 to improved security measures and increased enforcement of laws in this field.
Considering the success of the digital currency industry in the fight against cybercrimes, it is expected that we will see a decrease in the amount of cryptocurrency hacking in the coming year. However, there are still many vulnerabilities in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and it remains to be seen what the industry's security landscape will look like.
