Geodiversity (geological diversity) specialized meeting, with the slogan of protecting the past, sustaining the future, will be held on October 16, 1403, on the occasion of the World Geodiversity Day.
According to RCO News Agency, Dr. Nazanin Badri, Director of Research and Head of Geopark Studies of Iran’s Geological and Mineral Exploration Organization, explained about this meeting: Geodiversity is a silent friend of biodiversity and also sustainable development, which is actually the basis of all activities on the planet, and its protection must be It should be at the top of the countries’ goals, because the protection of diverse geological phenomena that have different capabilities causes biodiversity and diversity of activities on the planet and also affects cultural diversity.
He continued: Therefore, honoring this day and paying attention to geological protection is very necessary and it is necessary to pay more attention to it, and holding a meeting on this day will make people, officials and decision makers pay attention to the importance of geological diversity in sustainable development.
Since 2021, October 6 has been declared Geodiversity Day by UNESCO and with the cooperation of UN member states and international and national institutions and associations.
According to the Geological Organization, this meeting will be held in cooperation with the Geological and Mineral Exploration Organization of the country, the Iranian Association of Geomorphology and the Geographical Institute of Tehran University on October 16 at the Faculty of Geography of Tehran University, and the program will be announced soon.
