According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Space, the European Space Agency announced that a one-meter asteroid over the western Pacific Ocean, near an island located in the Philippines, got stuck in the Earth’s atmosphere and burned up without any damage.
Jacqueline Fazkas, a technology researcher at a NASA observatory in Arizona, identified the asteroid, 2024RW1. This observatory is dedicated to tracking and classifying celestial objects near the earth. The European Space Agency announced in a statement that 2024RW1 is the ninth asteroid detected before hitting Earth.
NASA’s Asteroid Watch website predicted such an impact would create a fireball that would be visible off the east coast of the Philippines.
