Researchers were able to identify autism in children with 100% accuracy with the help of artificial intelligence and through the retina.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, in this method, children's retinas were photographed. Then the artificial intelligence algorithm was able to diagnose autism with 100% accuracy. In this way, artificial intelligence can be used as a tool for screening and early diagnosis.
Researchers at a university college in South Korea were able to develop a method to identify autism and its wide spectrum with the help of retinal imaging and screening. The optic nerve and the retina connect to each other in an area called the optic disc at the back of the eye. This valve to the brain has a structure to reach the central nervous system. This is a sure way for scientists to reach the brain.
In this experiment, 958 participants with the age of 7-8 years were present and the researchers succeeded in imaging their retinas. In this group, half were diagnosed with autism using social responsiveness scores. Covolution neural network was trained as a kind of deep learning algorithm with the help of symptom severity test scores and retinal images. This artificial intelligence was finally able to successfully distinguish between healthy and ASD children.
