Earth’s lightning is observed by a space camera

One of the astronauts present in the space station is going to use the new space camera to examine the earth’s lightning.

According to Tekna technology and technology news service, Andreas Mogensen, who is currently in the space station with his new camera, plans to observe them with the aim of investigating the structure of lightning bolts. The astronaut has recently been in orbit for a six-month mission to investigate Earth’s thunderstorms. He had previously conducted research on this issue in 2015.

According to him, what he will investigate will include blue jets or inverted lightning and red ghosts or electrical discharges in the earth’s mesosphere. Mogensen previously announced in an interview that there are many things to understand how lightning is formed, and for this reason, he will conduct research with the research group on these phenomena.

Photographs of lightning are produced by powerful satellites and space cameras. These satellites were the geostationary environmental operational satellites. According to Mogensen, the new cameras can easily provide scientists with detailed information on how lightning forms and spreads. These cameras are neuromorphic and use different imaging methods than standard cameras. According to the statement of the European Space Agency, in these cameras, by collecting light through the camera shutter, instead of taking a photo, the differences in light are checked and the information is used to create an image.
